Conference on Advances in causal inference for macroeconomic policies

The Banque de France and the Euro Area Business Cycle Network are organizing a two-day workshop on recent advances in causal inference for macroeconomic policies. Causal inference is central to macroeconomic policymaking, yet it is challenging and remains largely uncertain.

 

Call for papers

The conference will cover topics including, but not limited to: 

  • new methods for reliable causal inference,
  • High-frequency identification,
  • Identification based on higher moments,
  • inference for counterfactual policies, 
  • estimation of structural parameters in policy evaluation, 
  • machine learning-based approaches to causal estimation.


Submission & Selection

The organizers welcome submissions of completed papers on theoretical and empirical aspects of the question. Applications on monetary policy using euro area data are particularly encouraged.
The keynote speaker will be Regis Barnichon (San Francisco Fed and CEPR)
The deadline for submissions is 31 December 2025.
