France's balance of payments - 2026-06

In June 2026, the current account deficit (seasonally and working-day adjusted data) reached EUR 1.4 billion, following a deficit of EUR 1.2 billion in May. The goods trade deficit narrowed to EUR 5.3 billion, down from EUR 6.3 billion in May, mainly due to a less severe deterioration in the energy bill (EUR -3.8 billion in June compared with EUR -4.6 billion in May). The goods excluding energy also decreased, standing at EUR 1.5 billion after EUR 1.7 billion in May. The surplus in trade in services also declined to EUR 5.2 billion (following EUR 6.3 billion in May), although it remained high. Over 12 months, the current account balance stood at EUR -6.5 billion, compared with EUR -14.9 billion a year earlier.
In June 2026 (cumulative data over 12 months), the financial account (non-adjusted data) was close to balance at EUR -0.5 billion (compared with net inflows of EUR 10.5 billion in June 2025). Direct investment and financial derivatives recorded net outflows of EUR 53.2 billion (compared with net outflows of EUR 4.8 billion a year earlier) and EUR 55.0 billion (compared with net inflows of EUR 12.5 billion a year earlier), respectively. By contrast, portfolio investment recorded net inflows of EUR 86.7 billion (compared with net outflows of EUR 144.7 billion in June 2025). Finally, net inflows related to other investments reached EUR 22.4 billion (following net inflows of EUR 152.4 billion in June 2025).
