On 13 February, François Villeroy de Galhau, Governor of the Banque de France, and Joachim Nagel, President of the Deutsche Bundesbank, inaugurated the EU-funded Regional Initiative to support African central banks through capacity building.

This initiative, which brings together the Banque de France, the Deutsche Bundesbank, six national central banks of the European System of Central Banks (ESCB) and the European Central Bank (ECB), aims to strengthen the capacities of twelve central banks in Africa. This program is the first to adopt a multilateral approach between EU and African central banks to promote regional cooperation. The training program, which has been allocated €2 million by the EU, will focus on key issues such as the fight against money laundering, banking supervision, digitisation, fintechs, cybersecurity, consumer protection and reserve management.
