A technology developed by the Banque de France to respond to challenging circulation conditions
Drawing on its expertise in banknote production for clients facing challenging circulation conditions, the Banque de France has developed EverFit® technology, a solution for producing stronger and more durable banknotes.
Harsh climate conditions, intensive handling, high speed of circulation, unsuitable storage conditions… these are all factors that affect banknote durability. EverFit® technology provides a radical improvement in durability (mechanical resilience, resistance to ink abrasion and resistance to soiling) compared with varnished paper banknotes or banknotes printed on polymer or composite substrates.

Based on real-life circulation tests, a banknote with EverFit® technology is four times more resistant to soiling than a varnished paper banknote circulating in the same conditions

EverFit® technology or the optimisation of the multi-layer banknote
EverFit® ® is a tried and tested technology that consists in depositing a protective adhesive film on each side of a banknote printed on a 100% cotton substrate.
It is the result of a combination of:
- a special paper formulation, which can be produced by standard paper mills and which preserves the paper's security properties
- a highly adhesive protective film
- the application of the film using a specially designed machine
A solution that reduces the environmental and economic impact of banknotes over their lifecyle
EverFit® has demonstrated its effectiveness and reliability in the collaboration with the Central Bank of Madagascar: after a test phase, EverFit® banknotes proved to be four times more durable than varnished banknotes. The result is a lower environmental impact over the banknote’s lifespan, savings in issuance costs, and an unchanged performance in terms of security.
