Denis Beau is reappointed First Deputy Governor of the Banque de France

Paris, January 15th 2024

On the proposal of the Minister for the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty, the Council of Ministers meeting on Friday 12 January decided to reappoint Denis Beau as First Deputy Governor of the Banque de France. This will be his second term in this position. 

Appointed Second Deputy Governor on 1 August 2017, he was then appointed First Deputy Governor on 17 January 2018, for a six-year term, renewable once. 

In this capacity, Denis Beau has been appointed by the Governor of the Banque de France to represent him as Chairman of the Autorité de contrôle prudentiel et de résolution (ACPR).  

He is also a member of the AMF Board and the Supervisory Board of the European Central Bank (ECB).

He was also appointed Chair of the ECB's Budget Committee (BUCOM) on 1 January 2023.

My training and professional career have led me to develop an expertise in the implementation of monetary policy, the prevention and management of financial crises and the security of means of payment.” Declared Denis Beau.

Denis Beau was born in 1962. After graduating from Sciences Po Paris and receiving an MBA from INSEAD, he joined the Banque de France in 1986 as a financial analyst in the Corporate Balance Sheet Department.

From 1993 to 2007, he held management positions in the Financial Markets Directorate and the Payments and Market Infrastructures Directorate, and was seconded for a year to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He subsequently served as Secretary of the Committee on Payment and Settlement Systems of the G10 central banks, before returning to the Banque de France in mid-2008 to take up the position of Deputy Director General of Economics and International Relations.

In 2011 he was appointed Deputy Director General of Financial Stability and Operations (DGSO) and in 2012 became Director General of the DGSO.
