Industry
  • In industry, activity recovered in May, driven by the pharmaceutical and aeronautical sectors; the automotive sector improved this month after four months of strong declines. Activity in the agri-food sector contracted slightly.

    According to business leaders, raw material prices continued to rise at a brisk pace, albeit less rapidly than in April. The balance of opinion on finished goods price developments fell slightly, but remained high.

    Order books were stable.

    Business leaders expect activity to change little, but this outlook is subject to a high degree of uncertainty due to the war in Ukraine and supply difficulties.

Market Services
  • In market services, activity continued to improve in May. Growth was observed in personal services (accommodation and food services, rental activities) and to a lesser extent in business services.

    Business leaders expect prices to increase further. Staff levels continued to grow at a sustained pace.
    The balance of opinion on cash positions weakened again, returning to slightly below its long-term average.

    Business leaders expect activity to post further gains in June, albeit at a more moderate pace.

Construction
  • Construction sector activity increased sharply in May, in both structural and finishing works.

    Order books were stable, standing above their long-term average. Business leaders reported a further rise in quote prices.

    They expect a slight decline in activity in June.
