The Research Directorate of the Banque de France (DIR) and the Research, Surveys and Statistics Directorate (DARES) of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Labour and Solidarity and the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Employment are organising a conference on "Wage bargaining, employment and economic and monetary policies" on 9 and 10 October 2007 in Paris.

The aim of this conference is to :

  • assess the effects of labour market rigidities on prices and wages as well as on employment dynamics ;
  • analyse how the structure and the functioning of the labour market, as well as its structural changes, affect monetary policy efficiency ;
  • identify the relationship between monetary policy efficiency and the degree of wage bargaining centralisation and examine the robustness of this relationship ;
  • bring out stylised facts about the degree of wage bargaining centralisation, especially for the euro area, by focusing on micro data analysis.

Gov. Jean-Pierre Landau will introduce the conference. Several experts will attend this conference, among others, Olivier Jean Blanchard (MIT), Lars Camfors (Stockholm University), Richard Freeman (Harvard University), Jordi Galì (CREI and Pompeu Fabra), Antoine Magnier (DARES) and Christian Pfister (Banque de France), for the invited lectures or the round table chaired by Marc-Olivier Strauss-Kahn (Banque de France).
